Load Cell Design:

Resistance strain gauges, elastomers, and sensing circuits are three main parts of resistive strain-type load cells.Besides, there are other components to form a whole load cell(see the picture below):

  • Resistance strain gauge:

mechanically distribute a resistance wire on a substrate base which is made of organic        material, then form a strain gauge

Note:about the strain gauge, please refer to load cell principle:change rules of strain gauge

  • Elastomer:

The elastomer is a specially shaped structure. It has two functions. The first is that it withstands the external force applied to the load cell, generates a reaction force to the external force, and achieves relative static balance; the second is that it produces a high-quality strain field (zone) so that it can be affixed in this area, then resistance strain gauges sticked on this area can be smoothly convert strain signal to voltage or current signal.

  • Sensing circuit:

The function of this part is to convert the resistance change of the resistance strain gauge into a voltage output. Because of many advantages, such as suppressing influence of temperature changes, suppressing lateral force interference, and more easily solving the compensation problem of the load cell,Wheatstone bridge is widely used in load cell.
